Driving from Florida to Las Vegas
65
Recently I took a road trip from Florida all the way over to Las Vegas Nevada. I was on vacation for about 10 days and I was wondering if it was possible to drive round trip from Florida to Las Vegas in 10 days. The road trip one way is about 2500 miles, depending on your location in Florida. My trip started out going North on I-95 to Atlanta and then I-20 West to I-40 West to Las Vegas.
If you are thinking about taking a similar trip to the other side of the US, there are a few tips I’d like to give to you:
Leave early in the morning
You should try to leave early in the morning in the early a.m. to get a head start on driving. There are fewer cars on the road early in the morning. Just be careful during this time because drunk drivers are often out between 2a.m. and 5a.m. I have read stories about drunk drivers driving the wrong way on the highway. During this time you may also encounter a lot of 18 wheelers. Just stay clear of them as much as possible.
Pack Snacks
Be sure to pack enough snacks for your journey. Snacks keep you alert and full at times. You should pack water, soda and candy. You should have a snack if you feel a little sluggish. I purchased 3 cinnamon lollipops that kept me awake whenever I felt a little tired. The lollipops kept me alert. I did not hesitate to get off the road when I felt really tired.
Don't allow your gas to get low
There are parts of the country that are very rural. I never allowed the gas to go below a ½ of tank. I didn’t want to be caught in the middle of rural county with low gas. Gas up as much as possible. Keep a track of gasoline prices. When you find a gas station that is low enough you should fill up.
Rest
Be sure to get off the road if you feel tired. There will be plenty of rest stops along the way. I saw a number of vehicles, including 18 wheelers, totally destroyed in a ditch on the side of the road.
If you find that you are getting tired or sleepy you should rest. I pulled over twice to rest, once at a rest stop in Oklahoma and once overnight in a hotel in Albuquerque New Mexico. There were a lot of hotels along I-40.
I really enjoyed my road trip. I completed the trip in 10 days. I would definitely do it again if I had the time.
